Calling all HOTEL stations …

Your radio should be your best friend.

“The whole concept of the CPF Patrollers revolves around two-way radios and the use thereof.”

Instant two-way radio communications can be vital. In Henley on Klip, particularly, the internet and cellphone networks are not always reliable due to factors such as weather, vandalism, electricity cuts and theft at the towers.

If an urgent message needs to get out; if there is a crisis such as flooding, fire or crime, radio is the way to do it. With two-way radio we can stay in touch and be informed, no matter what else is going on.

The two-way radio could bring you immediate help in times of need, but It can’t if it is in a cupboard, without charge and covered with dust.

Two-way radios are robust, but you do need to check battery charge, volume and functionality regularly. As the old adage says: “Rather to know that it is working and not needed than to need it and it is not working!”

Every evening at 19:30 a HCPF controller is on duty for radio checks. Although there is no gossip, it is a time of connection and community. You soon learn to link the call signs to names and faces.

It is a good opportunity to become familiar with your radio. Also let your children call in. In an emergency, or if you are ill or have an accident, it could save lives if they know what to do and are comfortable with the procedure.

PLEASE CALL IN …
